General Information:

 

8th Grade Year Long Chorus- Our year long chorus will have many great opportunities this year, including All-County, Winter and Spring concerts, the Wingate Choral Festival, and our Carowinds performance in the spring. We will learn to sing using proper technique and will grow in our music literacy by learning to read and write music using takadimi and solfege.

 

8th and 7th Grade Semester Chorus- Our semester choirs will have the opportunity to perform at the end of the semester in which we meet. We will learn to sing using proper technique and will grow in our music literacy by learning to read and write music using takadimi and solfege.

 

7th Grade and 6th Grade term classes- Our term classes will learn the fundamentals of music and singing, as well as delve deeper into multicultural music and how music interacts with the world around us. Term classes will grow in their music literacy by learning to read and write using takadimi and solfege. These are not performing classes, and grades will be made up of in-class assignments and participation.




Classroom Expectations:

Students are expected to come to class each day prepared with all materials & ready to learn. Students are also required to adhere to our Monroe Middle School B-4 policy: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Prepared, and Be Safe.

Learning Requirements:

Students will apply the elements of music & musical techniques in order to sing & play music with accuracy & expression.  Students will interpret the sound & symbol systems of music.  Students will create music using a variety of sound & notational sources.  Students will understand the interacting elements to respond to music & music performances.  Students will understand global, interdisciplinary, & 21st century connections with music.

Required Materials:

8th Grade Year Long Chorus: Students will be provided with a black folder, but must provide their own pencil and manuscript paper (loose leaf or notebook is fine).

All other classes: Please provide a folder, pencil, and manuscript paper (loose leaf or notebook).

 

Grading Policy:

In-class assignments: 45%

Summative: 45%

End of semester concerts (Fall and Spring)

End of term/semester exams

Homework: 10%

Submission of final projects, other assignments
