Objective:

Your child will learn basic knowledge of the automobile industry, along with personal and shop safety, ASE certification knowledge, vehicle components and operating systems along with understanding what happens when one of these components fail.  Students will learn how to properly prepare a vehicle for service to prevent damage and understand the proper procedure for service write-up, complete the 3 C’s of a service write-up and tips on how to relay that information to the customer.  At the end of this course your student will be prepared to properly perform what will be required of them as the time comes for them to journey into the exciting career of the automobile industry.

Expectations and Goals:

It will be expected that each student be respectful of the shop, tools and other individuals at all times.  It is imperative that safety is the number one priority in order to have a positive learning experience for all students.

Students will complete an SP/2 safety module earning them an Automotive Service Safety Certificate.

STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MISSED ASSIGNMENTS!  Student must complete the Missing/Late assignment form which can be found in multiple areas of the canvas course.  If this form is not completed, student may not receive credit for completing late or missing assignments.

All missing assignments are due no later than 2 weeks after assigned. No credit will be given if not turned in by the 2 week mark!!

Required Materials:

  • Composition notebook  (black and white style, but any color is ok)
  • Writing utensils (pens or pencils)

Optional Materials:

  • Box of nitrile/latex free gloves
  • Head phones

Grading Scale:

Classwork/Notebook - 40%

Homework/Projects - 20%

Quizzes - 20%

Tests - 20%

Canvas:

The majority of assignments will not be completed on paper, but will be submitted on our learning platform, Canvas or Electude.  Assignments can be submitted a variety of ways including, uploading files, typing into text boxes, and sharing Google documents/presentations.  Students will be shown how to submit assignments on Canvas as needed.  Individual assignments will indicate which method of submission on Canvas is expected.  If students need a refresher or have questions, they can access the Canvas Student Guide for specific instructions.  It is the student's responsibility to ensure assignments are submitted on time and to contact the instructor if there is a problem.  Please note that student activity is logged while in Canvas so instructors will be able to see if the student opened the assignment, if there was any activity including a log of student activities during on-line tests and quizzes.  Students are not allowed to leave the testing window during assessments.  Doing so is considered cheating and will be handled as set forth in the Porter Ridge HS handbook.

Notice:

Although many assignments are submitted and graded in our learning platform, Canvas, the "final" grades shown may not be properly weighted and do not contain assignments that were not graded in Canvas.  For the student's official grades, please continue to access the parent portal through Powerschool.  Login information is usually sent home with the students at the beginning of the year, and should be the same as last year.  If you need assistance accessing the parent portal, please contact the school.
