Course Syllabus

Introduction

I am beginning my 14th year of teaching here at Sun Valley High School.  I graduated from UNCC with a B.A. in Mathematics with secondary concentration in Education.  I love Statistics and look forward to teaching you this year!!!

Course Description

Statistics is the study of how to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret numerical information.  The statistical procedures you will learn should supplement your built-in system of inference - that is, statistical procedures and good sense. Courses in statistics are required for many college majors and this course is intended to give you an elementary background in statistical analysis. This course is designed so that at the completion of this course a student will take the AP Statistics exam and have the potential of earning collge credit. To receive AP credit you must take the AP exam on Thursday, May 5, 2022.  This is a college course and as such will be rigorous.

Grading Policy

Your grade will depend upon many facets:

Test/ Special projects (60%). Class Activities/Quizzes (30%). Homework (10%)

Tests will consist of multiple choice and free response questions.  They will be graded like the AP Exam (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5).  Your level earned on the test will determine your test grade:

Level 5 = 100

Level 4 = 95

Level 3 = 85

Level 2 = 75

Level 1 = 65

The special projects are designed to help students understand complex topics introduced in statistics.

Class Activities will take place most days and are a way to practice statistical concepts.  There will generally be 1 or 2 quizzes per chapter.  Most of these will be announced.

Homework will be assigned at the beginning of a chapter.  The homework will be from the textbook that is alligned with the College Board AP Statistic curriculum.  The purpose of the homework is to have an individual practice time to work on statistics skills.  Homework for each chapter will be due the day of the Chapter Test.

Final Exam

Although the AP Exam is required to receive AP credit, the Final Exam given during exam week at SVHS is EXEMPTABLE.  UC Exam Exemption Policies apply.
