AP United States Government and Politics Syllabus 2020.docx

Contained in the Syllabus is the outline and details of the course for a typical semester, NOT SPECIFIC TO NEW GUIDELINES FOR COVID.

Having said that....it is detailed for specifics pertained to this semester 2021.  I wanted to also provide some addendums and added comments for you in order to be clear, precise and absolutely specific on expectations for this semester.

First, Although I can not "Mandate" certain things....I can provide "points" towards your grade for certain behaviors, performance and actions.  The following list will be encompassed into a grade that will greatly assist in the points towards your overall grade:

Participation/Camera On during lecture-class/Attendance/

Participation is huge.  I expect questions, discussion, debate, etc....although I do ask you respect others opinions and points, regardless of whether you agree or disagree.  Everyone should have a forum to discuss topics.  "Hogging" the floor is sometimes good...but sometimes bad.  Just be respectful and that should go a long way.

Having your camera on shows me you are engaged, prepared and willing to attend class and are not just present to just "breeze" through it.  This is a college level course and you will be treated as such.  You are expected to engage in class and will be rewarded through both participation and engagement

Attendance is huge.  I will take role at the beginning and end of class.  Sometimes I will take it randomly.  If you miss any of the attendance roles, consider that notification of not receiving points for this area towards your grade.  Consider this portion of your grade similar to that of a test grade.  Roughly100 points can be earned for achieving maximum output in this area.   So if you have perfect attendance, your camera is on everyday, and you participate and engage accordingly, you will receive 100 points.  If you only do some of the requirements...you can still achieve points.....I will start everyone out in the class each unit with 100 points on this assignment....they will be your points to lose.  There will be limited discussion on the decision about the subtraction of such points.  You are welcome to ask about the subtraction, and although we may disagree, I will tell you that I rarely do things that are not in your direct benefit.  If points are subtracted.....you were likely the reason for the subtraction.....not me.

We will discuss other situations as they come up. But use this as your guide.
