About Spanish

Foreign languages study is essential nowadays not only to meet the requirements of higher education institutions, but also because of the expanding global economy and ever increasing job opportunities requiring one or more languages other the English in order to prepare our future leaders to be more competitive in this globalized world.

Emphasis will be placed on communicating effectively in Spanish according to your level, making connections, comparing Spanish with the English language and understanding the cultures of the Spanish speaking countries applying a variety of learning strategies to explore the many concepts in Spanish using different tools such as games, visual aids, videos, songs, outdoor activities, etc.  

 

Classroom Management & Expectations 

The following rules, procedures, and consequences will be implemented in the classroom in order for the class to run smoothly and allow for maximum learning.

Class rules  

  1. We respect each other  
  2. We speak Spanish                    
  3. We bring our supplies and assignments  
  4. We learn and have fun!         

                                                 

Consequences

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Lunch detention/Contact parents
  3. Office referral

 

Procedures

  1. Please seat quietly and work on your daily routine
  2. Raise your hand to speak.
  3. Before leaving, please be sure everything is clean around your desk.
  4. Bathroom passes will only be provided when emergencies appear.

Grading Scheme 

A = 90-100 %

B = 80-89 %

C = 70-79 %

D = 60-69 %

F = 59% and below  

 

Grades: Every six weeks will be awarded according to the following:

  1. Listening Comprehension   20%                                                                                                            
  2. Reading Comprehension    20%                                                                                                                                                                                  
  3. Writing   20%                                                                                                                                
  4. Speaking   20%
  5. Culture  20%                                                                                                                                                      

Total:    100%
