Course description NCSCS:

Spanish I is an introduction to the study of a second language through the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Culture, geography, and grammar are integrated into the course. Students have limited or no prior study of the language. Also, we will have a strong technology component throughout the course to develop students’ 21st Century Skills.  This course will be taught and conducted mostly in Spanish.  Rarely will English be used.

Student Expectations:

  • Be on time. Be present. Be prepared.
  • Bring your cromebook, charger, 3 ring binder, headphones, and a pen to class EVERY DAY.
  • NO cell phones or electronic communication devices.

  • Respect yourself and others.
    • Do not speak while your teacher speaks.
    • Raise your hand to speak
    • Do not speak while others are speaking.
    • Ask permission to leave your seat.
    • Treat others the way you wish to be treated.
    • The use of computer is ONLY for educational purposes.
  • Demonstrate high quality work.
  • Use as much Spanish as possible
  • Be an active listener
  • Eyes on the speaker
  • Bathroom use is limited

Late and make up work:

  • Class work is due at the end of the class. Work must be written and legible.  Work that is not legible and does not look like a diligent, sincere effort was made it will not be accepted. 
  • Non legible assignments will receive a “0”.
  • Late work will be worth a maximum of 70% and be accepted within 3 days of returning to class only. No credit will be given for work not made up within this time frame.
  • It´s the student´s responsibility to make up his/her own work.

 

Grading:  I use a point system as follows:

I expect students to participate every day in the class. Participation should be mainly in Spanish

Dismissal from class

Sra. Elliott dismisses class – NOT the bell. Students will be dismissed from class when:

  • All materials are placed in the appropriate place
  • All trash is thrown away
  • All desks and chairs are in their appropriate place

 

Plagiarism:

 

Plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated in class.  Copying homework and/or using on-line translators is plagiarism.  While students are encouraged to use bilingual dictionaries to look up individual words when they are completing projects, homework, or any other Spanish work. It is absolutely forbidden to use websites for mass translation. Mass translations include entire sentences or short phrases. Use of such translators for mass translations will be considered plagiarism. (See the student handbook for school policy on cheating.)

Cheating will result in a zero for the assignment and a phone call home for everyone involved.
