Visual Arts VI

(May be altered due to timing/class time

Class overview: This course is meant for third level advanced art students who are have completed Art I, Art 2, and 3.. Skills learned in Art 1, 2, 3  are incorporated and enhanced through this course.  Each students will use their prior knowledge in the previous courses to investigate more thoroughly two-dimensional drawing and design.  Students must show initiative and good work habits in addition to being interested in art

 

Class overview:

We will be looking at expanding your skills in a variety of media to produce work that will allow you to continue on to Arts VI and Independent study, as well as AP visual arts if chosen.  We will be using a variety of different media’s, some that you may have to purchase and others that will be provided for you.  Below is a proposed schedule of the work that we will be starting with.  Timing of assignments and their deadlines may be altered depending on time committed to work and completions early.


Class Level: 11, 12

Class overview: This course is meant for third level advanced art students who are have completed Art I and Art 2.  Skills learned in Art 1 and 2 are incorporated and enhanced through this course.  Each students will use their prior knowledge in the previous courses to investigate more thoroughly two-dimensional and 3-dimensional projects.  Students must show initiative and good work habits in addition to being interested in art

 

Instructional Approach:

Instruction for Fine Art III will take place in the studio art room. Students will have time to develop their ideas in their sketchbooks, learn a variety of techniques to help them achieve their creative goals, and then work through the creative process to complete their unit project.  Creating works from direct observation and completing practice techniques from observation will allow for each individual artist to grow and progress through the art program.

 

Grading Policy

Grades will be determined on academic achievement and individual performance based on North Carolina Essential Standards for Visual Arts.  The grade will be determined by projects, a process journal/sketchbook including but not limited to, notes, sketches, brainstorming, worksheets, quizzes, artist statement, daily progress/use of class time, and other formative assessments.  There will be a final project for each unit.

 

Required materials that is PERTINENT to your success: 

  • ​ 1. ​Sketchbook​ – unlined, minimum size 8.5 x 11 inches. 
  • ​ ​Full range of professional drawing pencils will be provided BUT if you lose or run out 

you will need to get more. 

  • ​ 2. ​Color Pencils ​ (There is a classroom pack but is recommended you have your own) 
  • ​ 3. ​2 black drawing pens,​ Super fine point. (Sharpies are ok) 
  • ​ ​Pencil sharpener will be provided but you may want a personal one 
  • ​ ​Assorted paint brushes will be provided, you may want to invest in some others that 

aren't provided. 

  • ​ 4. ​Styrofoam or plastic egg cartons​(for paint), plastic bag and small sponge (to keep 

paint wet between uses)  Keep bringing these in as the year goes on. 

  • ​ ​Old shirt to paint in or apron to help keep clothes clean. NOTE:  Acrylic paint is 

permanent! 

  • ​ 5. ​2 canvases size 16x20 minimum​ (can be purchased at any art supply/craft store, 

Wal-Mart, Big Lots, etc) 1 canvas for master copy and one canvas for final exam. 

You may be asked to purchase project materials during the course of the semester, 

depending on the individual project. 

**It is wise to purchase own art materials for every project including some paints.  See me 

for further details.

  1.   Drawing Pencils-different lead types (2B, 4B, 6B, 8B, 2HB, 4HB, 6HB, etc.)
  2. Pencil Sharpener
  3. Eraser-pink pearl, or kneaded eraser
  4.   Paints-Acrylic and watercolor, need based on projects that allow you to choose your media.
  5. Paint Brushes, a variety of sizes.
  6. 11. Poster Board- WE NEED THIS FIRST WEEK- WILL BE USING TO CREATE A PORTFOLIO FOR YOUR WORK, TO STORE THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER.
  7. Charcoal Pencils-They will most likely be found in a set. We will need the variety of different hardness grades.  (** I do have a few sets here that can be used, however you will be better to have your own sets.)

     13.Container for your supplies-I would recommend a tackle box or a tool box. This will allow you to keep multiple things in it. (Can be left in room)

  1. Exacto knife
  2. Rubber cement or spray adhesive
  3. Colored paper-can be construction or a better quality color paper pad (scrapbook paper is a better quality)
  4. 9 x 12 sheet plexi- glass
  5. Etching or carving tools for foam and plexi glass
  6. Watercolor paint-primary and secondary colors plus white, black and brown
