Course Syllabus

Welcome to Pharmacy Technician (Honors).  This course is designed to prepare the high school senior for a job in a pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

The coursework will cover federal law, the most commonly used medications, calculations required for drug dosing and general pharmacy operations.

The student who successfully completes the course will be eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.  The PTCB exam will be taken during the final grading period.  It is taken at a testing site off campus.  All students are expected to take the certification exam.

This is a rigorous course that requires daily  review.  Students will have weekly drug quizzes in addition to domain (unit) tests.  Students will make note cards for each drug studied (200).

Students are also expected to access my Canvas page and utilize it for notes, activities and practice quizzes.

Students are expected to take notes during instruction.  All notes will be taken by hand.  The dominant format of the course is lecture with some independent work.

Period usually is planned to allow time for students to begin any homework assignment.  Students are advised to use this time wisely.

Cell Phones:

All student phones will be placed in a numbered pocket when the tardy bell rings.  Students will retrieve them upon leaving the class at the end of the period.

Absences:
Students are expected to ask for missed work upon the return to class.  A student who misses a test will make up the test at the NEXT Warrior Block session. Students who are absent on the review day preceding the test but returning on test day are expected to test with the class.  Make up work for students with multiple consecutive absences will be handled on an individual basis.  Missed tests/quizzes may be entered into PowerSchool as a “0” until made up.
