General Information

6th Grade Math has five required strands. They are: Number Systems, Expressions & Equations, Ratios & Proportions, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability. 

Students will work in a variety of different ways in order to meet all learning types. Some examples are hands-on activities, note taking, station work, independent tasks, computer assignments, project-based learning, a variety of assessments both on and off of the computer.

Learning Requirements: 

  • Number Systems 

Items such as greatest common factor, least common multiple, divisibility, dividing fractions, standard algorithm for division, decimals (add, subtract, multiply & divide), integer, plotting points in all 4 quadrants, will be covered. 

  • Ratios and Proportions 

Some items include unit rates, percent, conversions of measurement, and equivalent ratios. 

  • Expressions & Equations (ALGEBRA) 

We will be graphing inequalities, simplifying expressions, using powers, solving problems using order of operations and algebraic properties, and learning and solving problems with variables. 

  • Geometry 

Some items include knowing and using formulas for area, surface area and volume and matching nets to their 3D partners. 

  • Statistics & Probability 

Our focus is mainly on statistics. We will be finding mean, median, mode, range, upper and lower extremes. We will be creating a variety of different graphs including frequency tables, box plots, line plots, and histograms.

Tutoring Days and Hours: 

  • After school, by appointment only 
  • ROTC is here every Wednesday afternoon from 4:00-4:45. You must arrange transportation home for your child. We must have an email or note to confirm your support and commitment to this tutoring.

Grading Policy: The Union County Public Schools Grading Policy is what is used for grading. A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 Below 60 is an F 

A variety of different types of grades are taken throughout the year. They are below.

Late Work Policy: School Policy 

Student work completion and responsibility is priority at the middle school level. This is encouraged and reinforced by a late work policy that challenges students to be self-directed and responsible as they improve their academic growth. All assignments are expected to be turned in by the Due Date. 

Day 1- Late Work Penalty: may earn no more than 90% Day 2- Late Work Penalty: may earn no more than 80% Day 3 (DEADLINE)- Late Work Penalty: may earn no more than 70% The DEADLINE is 3 days beyond the Due Date and no work will be accepted beyond that point. 

NOTE: Special consideration may be given to students who request it in writing to their teacher. This will be a teacher decision under those circumstances. The students must request this for any special consideration.
