WHAT IS PHYSICAL SCIENCE?

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?

Physical science is the study of the observable world around us through experimental research. It covers both physics and chemistry.

 

This is a student-led course, we will be completing as many experiments as possible. There is also a significant mathematics dependency in this course.

 

Section 1: Forces and Motion

•       Frame of reference

•       Objects in freefall

•       Newton’s Laws

Section 2: Matter – Properties and Change

•       Types of Matter

•       Bonding

•       Radioactivity

Section 3: Energy – Conservation and Transfer

•       Types of Energy

•       Waves

•       Electricity and Magnetism

 

HOW WILL I BE GRADED?

Each term is worth 25% of your final grade, with the final exam (in January) also worth 25%.

Each term, you will be graded using a points system:

Presentations

Worksheets

Tests

50 Points

20 Points

10 Points

Presentations will not be presented (except the last one).

Will have time in class to complete, though will be set as homework.

Time to complete in lesson. Not all worksheets will be graded.

Given once a topic has been completed. Often practice questions will be given beforehand.

 

WHAT WILL I NEED?

  • Notebook or folder
  • Chromebooks with charger for every lesson
  • Scientific calculator is highly recommended (don’t need to buy the graphing variety, $10 scientific calculator will suffice)
