I can be contacted via email at Kaitlyn.stabile@ucps.k12.nc.us and will respond within one to two school days. Make sure to have two signatures on this document, yours AND your parent/guardian’s.

Class Rules:

You are expected to follow all Union County Public Schools and Weddington High School rules.  If you are unfamiliar with these rules, please refer to the pre-school packet that you received either in the mail or at orientation. Ms. Stabile’s rules are as follows:

  1. There will be no eating in the classroom at any time. Especially NO PEANUTS OR GLUTEN! Small bottles of NON-GLASS, closed container, liquid drinks will be accepted if needed; No smoothies, energy drinks (excluding coffee) or soda allowed.
  2. Classwork must be completed in class, no extensions unless you are absent. Extended time will be given in class as needed—but if you are present you are expected to complete your work.
  3. Homework may be done during designated times in class, but will NOT be accepted late. Nor will any case studies, or article reviews. Regular credit only for work, nothing extra.
  4. Phones must be placed in your numbered pocket. Any phone disturbance will marked as a classroom disturbance and treated as an offense. Laptops must also be away.
  5. Bathroom use must be logged, and will be tracked on the chrome book next to the door
  6. If you break it, you replace it. I have a variety of things I have personally bought, and they will not be touched unless otherwise directed. This includes candy and any lab materials. Be respectful of your surroundings and peers.
  7. Assigned seats will be followed, and before we leave class the seats/desks will be cleared and set into a neat position. No one will leave the room any different than the condition it was in to begin with. Student Ambassadors will check/verify the condition.
  8. Any Classroom privilege (such as labs) will be treated just as that—a privilege and may be taken away at any point to poor classroom behavior.

Classroom Expectations:

  • Be respectful and courteous to your classmates and the teacher.
    • Any incident will be recorded on Educators handbook.
  • Allow the other students in the class (and yourself) to learn.
    • Zero tolerance policy for bullying or any other form of harassment
  • Be punctual! (Be in the room and ready to go – pencils sharpened, notes, computers charged and ready -  when the bell rings) No laptop, no grade (if assignment is online).
    • See tardy policy in student handbook regarding LOCKOUTS*
  • Follow all verbal and written instructions from the teacher.
  • Stay in your assigned seat unless otherwise directed.

Homework:

  • Assigned nightly, to be completed by the start of the next class.
  • Can be spot checked or taken up for a grade.
  • If you do not have a homework assignment at the time I ask for it, it will result in a zero.

*It is your responsibility to keep track of homework assignments.  I suggest that you use your agenda book to write your assignments down and note due dates.

*Taking up homework enables me to check your understanding and it gives you more opportunities to earn grades (which is awesome since I don’t do extra credit!).

Tutoring:

Please tell me that you are coming for tutoring so I can make the appropriate plans. Extra help sessions will be held by a per-need basis, however I will always be available at 7:40 before school begins.   If you tell me that you are coming or need an extra help session, please show up! Warrior block will also follow Weddington procedure.

Honors Class:

This is an Honors level class.  That means that it will be rigorous and challenging.  You will be expected to work hard and do your best at all times.  There will be homework on most nights, as well as classwork and projects that are assigned to make sure you understand the content and enrich your learning experience.

Curriculum:

We will cover all topics listed as a part of the North Carolina curriculum in this Anatomy and Physiology class this semester.  If you wish to see a copy of the Anatomy curriculum for North Carolina please ask me for a copy or visit www.ncpublicschools.org. Topics include but are not limited to :

  • General introduction/ anatomical directions and vocabulary
  • Bones and muscles
  • Action potentials and the Nervous Systems
  • Endocrine and Immune systems
  • Cardiovascular and respiratory systems
  • Urinary and digestive systems
  • Reproduction and human development (including embryological development)

Grading:  Grading will be done using the weighted system. CANVAS DOES NOT REFLECT YOUR ACTUAL GRADE. Please make sure to check power school frequently for an accurate standing in the class.

The grading break -down is as follows:

  • Quizzes: 15% of total grade
  • Tests: 40% of total grade
  • Homework: 20%
  • Case Studies and Classwork: 15%
  • Article Review and Projects: 10%

Canvas & Google:

I use Canvas and google for several assignments during the semester and to give you study aids and interesting things I find about the topics we are studying. All assignments, no matter the platform will always be listed on the canvas page. Notes will NOT be posted on canvas.

*If you are not familiar with Canvas, please log-in and take a look at our class page.

*Ask me questions in class when I am demonstrating how to use the different Canvas and google applications.  I want you to be comfortable using these things so you will know what to do when it comes time to turn in assignments.

Laboratory privileges:

We will be doing labs in this class, INCLUDING DISSECTIONS.  You are expected to act in an appropriate and orderly manner during all lab activities, and you MUST BE PRESENT FOR ALL DISSECITONS.  Failure to do so will result in loss of lab privileges and a reduced grade.  I enjoy incorporating labs into my classes, but full cooperation from every member of the class is required to insure that labs run smoothly.

  • Please follow the lab procedure as it is explained to you by Ms. Stabile during EVERY lab.
  • Please pay attention to the necessary steps as outlined by the teacher to keep yourself and your classmates’ safe during lab activities.
  • You will be asked to sign a lab safety contract to insure that you are aware of safe practices in a lab setting. This contract must be signed before the first lab session.

Absences:

When you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask me for the notes and work you missed.  You will have 3 school days to make-up any missed work so please stay on top of things!

  • Missed tests and quizzes must be made-up before or after school within 5 days.  I do not allow students to make-up tests and quizzes during class. Not scheduling a make-up test will result in a zero and is 100% the student’s responsibility.

Technology Policy

There will be no phones, tablets, laptops or other devices used in the classroom, unless otherwise stated by Ms. Stabile. Failure to abide by this policy will result in a reduced grade. If it becomes a recurring issue (aka more than one time), a referral can be written to the office, as repeated behavior offenses will follow the same order of consequences listed previously in this syllabus.
