Spanish II Course Expectations

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español II!

This semester your vocabulary will continue to grow and your ability to communicate verbally and in writing will also improve.  In this course, as in all other language courses, you will learn to speak and understand as much Spanish as possible through daily practice.

Course Objectives:

  1.  To engage in more complex conversation.
  2. To understand and interpret language verbally and in writing on a more advanced level.
  3. To present information, concepts and ideas to an audience.
  4. To gain knowledge and demonstrate understanding of Spanish speaking cultures.
  5. To compare other cultures with his/her own culture.
  6. To use language and understanding beyond  the school setting.

Assessment (We are on a total points system):

    1.  Homework  This category of assignments is usually graded based on effort.  Be sure to complete each one in order to receive full credit.  Late work will not be accepted unless you have an excused absence.  You will have 3 days per absence to make up your work. Failure to do so will result in a 0%.  Copying your work or using any kind of translator (electric or otherwise) also forfeits your right to receive credit for that assignment.  These actions constitute cheating.

  • Classwork  In order to achieve the course objectives each student will be expected to participate on a daily basis.  This will also be graded on effort, not accuracy.  Be sure that you do your best and participate whenever possible.  Each day you will have the opportunity to earn credit for your Spanish!  The more you try, the better you’ll be!
  • Quizzes  These will be given as often as deemed necessary and will always be announced.  They may include grammar, vocabulary or culture. Again, cheating (as defined above) will not be tolerated and will result in a 0%.  The class honor code must be written on each assessment in order to receive credit.

  • Tests  Cumulative tests will be given at the end of each chapter/section in order to assess mastery of the material.  It is very important that you prepare yourself daily in order to be successful. Projects may also be a part of this category .  The honor code will also be required on all products in this category in order to receive credit. Again, honest effort is expected.  Students will be offered the opportunity to do test corrections on chapter assessments as a form of remediation. This will add points to their grade, but only if corrected completely and  accurately.

Honor Code:  Yo prometo por mi honor que no he dado ni recibido ayuda sin permiso en

                               este trabajo.

Supplies:

  1.  3 ring binder filled with loose leaf paper with 4 sections. If the student shares the binder with another class please be sure it won’t be collected by that teacher.
  2. Pen (any color but red) or pencil and a dry erase marker for work.
  3. Earbuds.

Behavioral Expectations for the class are simple.  I expect all students to have respect for the work being done in our classroom.  No one has the right to interfere with another person’s learning (or teaching). This includes any staff member with whom you may come in contact.  I expect and appreciate your arrival to class on time and your daily contributions to class!

If either you or your parents have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through the school at 704-290-1520  or at jason.burtis@ucps.k12.nc.us.
