Course Syllabus

ART 2 SYLLABUS

Student name_____________________________________             Class Period_____________

Course Description: Art 2 builds on the student’s technical skills and foundation of knowledge developed in Art 1. The study of the elements of art and principles of design, color theory, vocabulary, and art history continues in Art II in a less teacher-directed situation. Various art processes, procedures, and theories are presented in a problem-solving manner which allows for independent choices and personal solutions to problems. The approach to art experiences is less experimental and based more on informed choices. Student research of art and artists is a major source for gaining knowledge and understanding of past and present art forms. A greater flexible and fluent use of the elements of art and principles of design, color, theory, and vocabulary is stressed in Art II. See Mrs. Baumgarten’s Website  to View the course objectives and North Carolina Essential Standards for the is course.

Assignments will carry a specified number of points (Quality points), assignments handed in on due dates will receive (Due Date points) for completion and handing in on assigned date. Late assignments will receive Zero Due Date points. Points are earned in the following ways:

Google Docs: will be  used to record written assignments including  research, vocabulary, and self-evaluations. All written work is expected to be in your own words and handed in on due dates. Note some written assignments will be posted to your website. Copying text or images from the internet or sharing assignments with peers is considered plagiarism and therefore considered cheating and will result in a grade of zero for the assignment. The student who gives answers is just as guilty as the one who takes them.

Sketchbooks will be used for preliminary sketching, drawing assignments, media technique, daily exercises etc. the book is also a place for you to store ideas for future art projects in the form of sketches, written ideas, or pasted resources that you may want to use in the future.

Studio artwork assignments are usually worth 100 quality points plus 10 points for handing in on the due date. Always do your own work. Never touch the work of another student!

Drawing Days: Mondays are drawing days. We will explore drawing and drawing techniques. Every student is expected to put forth maximum effort. A maximum of 15 points per drawing day may be earned by trying your best. These drawings will be graded once, at the end of each grading period, The grade will be based upon your individual improvement, comparing first to last drawings this packet of drawings will be worth 100 quality points once each grading period.

Penalties for late assignments:. Points are earned by handing in complete assignments on due dates NO partial points will be awarded. Late assignments will not be eligible for Due Date points but will be eligible for quality points, full credit will be awarded for late work up to 5 school days after the due date, until the last day of the grading period. 50% of earned Quality points will be awarded for work more than 5 days late.
