Introduction to Automotive Service

The objective of this course is to prepare students for continuing education in the
automotive field and to show the certification test process through ASE. By the end of
this course you, the student, should have a basic knowledge of the automotive industry
including automotive history, safety practices, shop equipment and tools, vehicle
subsystems, service publications, fasteners, professional responsibilities, and
automotive maintenance. Emphasis is on Automobile Service Information, major
components, basic systems, and their repair and maintenance.

Required Supplies
:
Chrome Book
Three-ring binder or Folder
Pencils/pen
Paper
suitable shop apparel when needed
Class participation will include homework, classwork, and being prepared to perform
shop/lab duties.
Teacher's evaluation of student's performances and attitudes towards their required tests
will make up 50% of their total grade. Poor work ethic, including bad safety habits, will
not be tolerated and reflect heavily on the student's overall grade.
Instructional Method:
Using a combination of computer-based instruction, lecture, and
the hands-on demonstration, students will practice towards mastery of all required NATEF

The teacher expects you to
:
Be in class 100% of the time.
Bring a school-supplied laptop to class every day with a charger
Behave appropriately in class. This means:
not speaking with other students while the teacher is lecturing
not leaving the classroom during class except when absolutely necessary
not entering the class late or leaving early, except in emergencies
not working on other classwork during the class lecture or discussion time
NOT HAVE CELL PHONES OUT IN CLASS!! YOU AND YOUR PHONE WILL BE REMOVED
FROM CLASS.
not have food or drinks into areas where they are forbidden
Disruptive students will be removed from class.
Students are also expected to:
Discuss with the teacher problems that you are having in the classroom or
with the classwork.
Check on your grades often and discuss concerns early -- do not wait until the
last week of the semester.
Treat the teacher with courtesy, even when there is disagreement. Also, treat
other students with courtesy.
All students will be expected to participate in shop and classroom cleanup at
the end of each class period. Ample time will be allotted by the teacher for
this purpose. All tools will be cleaned and put away properly before class is

INSTRUCTOR OR THE INSTRUCTOR HAS DIRECTED CLASS DISCUSSION.

YOU WILL STAY IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT UNLESS ASKED TO MOVE, OR
TOLD BY THE INSTRUCTOR TO DO OTHERWISE UNTIL THE BELL RINGS
FOR THE END OF CLASS.
ANY CLASS WORK NOT COMPLETED IN CLASS NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED
BY THE NEXT DAY! ANY CLASS WORK OVER 1 WEEK PAST DUE WILL
NOT BE COUNTED.
YOU CAN GO TO THE BATHROOM TWICE PER 6 WEEKS BUT YOU WILL
HAVE TO SIGN IN AND OUT AND ANY LONGER THEN 10 MINS WILL RESULT
IN DEDUCTION OF CLASS PARTICIPATION GRADE UNLESS DIRECTED
OTHERWISE BY SCHOOL NURSE.
