6th Grade Advanced Math

New Update:  6/9  Happy Last Day of School!  You made it!  This is your last day of being a 6th grader.  Thanks for all your hard work this year.  I posted an announcement with a video to say goodbye.  Please be sure to watch it.  Have a terrific summer!

6/8  Good Morning!  Hope you had a great weekend.  Well, you have two more days of being a 6th grader and then you will be leaving me.  I hope that you will come see me next year whenever you get a chance.  I hate that you did not get to sign my yearbook and I wanted to sign your yearbooks too.  I heard that the yearbooks will not be in until sometime in July.  Any work that you finish today, I will put in PowerSchool just send me an email.  Have a wonderful day.

6/5  Happy Friday!  Time to finish all your work.  If you have not watched the inequality video, be sure to watch that today and email me the code word.  Then do the 10 questions in canvas to practice graphing inequalities.  Have a great day!

Update:   6/4  Hello!  The last video lesson is ready.  The lesson is called Graphing Inequalities.  Be sure to send me the code word for a grade.  After you watch the video, there are 10 problems on Canvas for you to practice.  Email me with any questions or problems.  Guess what?  Tomorrow is my birthday!

Update: 6/3  Good Morning!  Please continue to work on the new lesson on two-step equations and any other missing assignments that you have.  There will be one more lesson on inequalities that will ready later on.  Thanks for all the work that you have done on equations.  Some of you sent me pictures of your worksheets and your work looked great.

Update:  6/2  Hello!  Can you believe it is the last full week of school?  Thanks to those of you who were able to come to school and pick up your locker items.  I was so happy to see you!  There is a new video for you to watch called Two-Step Equations.  You need to print the worksheet called "Did You Hear About..." before you watch the video because we will do several of these problems together at the end of the video.  I will be doing one more lesson on inequalities that will be ready on Wednesday.  That will be your last lesson for the week.  Email me if you need anything.

Update:  5/29  Happy Friday!  There is only one more Friday until summer.  Please watch the video today if you have not done so already and then do the 10 practice problems.  You will need to have all your work turned in by next Friday, June 5th.  We will have some new assignments next week so you need to get caught up with your work so that you can be finished by the end of the week.  Have a terrific weekend!

Update:  5/28  Good Morning!  I am so glad that it stopped raining.  The new video is ready called More on Multiplication Equations .  After you watch/take notes on the video, go to the next assignment.  There are 10 problems called Multiplication and Division Equations Practice.  Be sure to email me the code word.  You are doing great!  You are almost finished with 6th grade.  Unbelievable!

Update:   5/27  Thank you to all of you who took the county Math Assessment yesterday.  I still have 17 students who have not taken the assessment yet.  You must take the assessment today.  You have from 9 am to 7 pm.  Please do your best, but remember your score on the assessment will not cause you to move down in Math only up.  You are automatically in Advanced Math next year.

Update:  5/26 Good Morning!  I hope you had a fun Memorial Day!!  Please decide today when would be a good time for you to complete the Math Assessment.  You will need 75 minutes and you cannot pause the test so talk to your parents and decide what is the best time today or tomorrow for you to do this.  Before you start the test, be sure you have paper so that you can work out each problem.

Update:  5/22  Happy Friday!  You have a three day weekend.  Yay!  Please finish the module for this week as soon as possible.  I really wanted to do another lesson this week, but so many of you are not with me that I didn't want to put so many people behind.  Monday is a holiday and Tuesday is the assessment so the new module will not go up until Wednesday. I will be sending out some information about the assessment later today so that you can know what to expect on Tuesday.

Update:  5/21 Good Morning!  You should be watching the video on Division Equations and completing the worksheet called Moving Words.  Remember that the most important thing about equations is that you can show your work correctly so be sure to take notes from the video.

Update:  5/20  Happy, Rainy Wednesday!  The new video is ready on Division Equations.  After you watch/take notes on the lesson please do the worksheet called Moving Words.(I sent this in an email to you and your parents last night.)  I think you will find the code word in this video is much easier than the code phrase from last time.  Ha! ha!  Thank goodness, right!

Update:   5/19  Good Morning!  You should be receiving a Canvas course invitation today for the Assessment next Tuesday.  If you do not receive the invitation today, please let me know.  I updated the grades in PowerSchool so check to see if you are missing any assignments from last week.  The new video is ready on Box-and-Whisker Plots.  There is a practice activity and then a Quiz to complete.  I will be adding more to the module so please work on the new lesson today.

Update:  5/18  Next week, your math work will involve completing a comprehensive evaluation of your math skills.  As always, do your best and complete it independently.  The results will help us serve you and other students in the future.

Tomorrow, you will receive a Canvas course invite to this assessment.  Next Tuesday, May 26 from 9am to 7pm, you will have the opportunity to complete it.  You will have one attempt at the 75-minute assessment.

Look for the Canvas course invite on Tuesday.  If you don’t receive it, let me know on Wednesday.  Have a great week!

Update:  5/13  Sorry for all the technical difficulty this morning.  My email was not working and then I couldn't even get into Canvas for a good while.  I hope everything is going okay with the 5 Number Summary lesson.  Be sure to keep these worksheets because we can use them to make the box-and-whisker plots.

Update:  5/12  Hello!  Congratulations to those of you who have already solved the Murder Mystery!  I know that some of you are trying to catch up on your work so keep going through the modules step by step.  There will be a new recording ready on Wednesday about the 5 number summary.  You use this to draw box-and-whisker plots.  The box-and-whisker plots are kind of different and fun.  Talk to you later.

Update:  5/11  Good Morning!  Hope you had a good weekend!  It was Gregory's birthday on Saturday.  He is 7 years old now.  We had a fun day!  There is a new module for you to start.  Reminder:  Please work straight through the modules.  If you are on last week's module still, please do not jump and start doing this week's work first.  This makes it easier as I am putting grades into PowerSchool and my grade book.  Have a good day.

Update:  5/8  Happy Friday!  Please finish up the work in the module for this week.  The last assignment for the week is to use the worksheets that I sent and to take notes with the recorded video.  After that, do the practice questions on mean, median, mode, and range.  We will continue with this next week and learn how to do a 5 number summary so that we can do a box-and-whisker graph.

Update:  5/7  Hello!  Hope you are having a good week.  Please continue to work through this week's module.  If you need me to reassign anything on Flocabulary, you can email me.  Please remember to do the module in order.  Watch the video first, then email me the code.  Then go on to the next assignment.

Update: 4/6  Students there are new assignments under the module called Week of April 6th.  You will need to complete these assignments this week.

Update: 4/3 Students, I hope that you have finished the assignments that were in the first module.  If you have not finished, you will still be able to complete these next week.  There will be a new assignment posted on Monday for next week.

Update: 4/1 The county has instructed us to begin posting short assignments for all classes.  For a full week, I will post  assignments two times.   This week I will only be posting one time.  Go to my modules page and find the one that says Welcome Back April 1st.   You will need to complete these assignments this week.

If you go to the 6th grade canvas page, there is a suggestion for a schedule that you could follow.  It has office hours for Math are on Mondays from 9-10.  This just means that Monday during that time, I am readily available to answer your questions.  I can answer questions any day, but this is just a suggestion.  The schedule recommends that your 1st and 2nd period classes' work be your focus on Wednesday and Friday.  This is again just a suggestion.  You can do the work whatever day and time is best for you.
