Important Class Information

Welcome!

Read below for information regarding specific aspects of this class. Many of these items are also included in your syllabus.

PowerSchool
  • In order to see your child's grades in my gradebook, be sure to get your PowerSchool password from Diane Scaduto, in the front office. Please allow up to 5 school days from the time the assignment is due to see the grade online.  Projects may take a little longer, but will be entered in a reasonable amount of time. I update PowerSchool almost daily, and it is very important that both parent and student check this on a regular basis to stay on top of progress.

Morning Help
  • I am available for extra help every Wednesday morning from 8:15-8:35.  Students will need to see me for a pass on TUESDAY in order to attend.  They will not be permitted down the hallway on Wednesday morning without a pass. Please keep in mind that this is not a tutoring session, but rather a time to receive help on specific assignments.  Therefore, students must bring with them something specific to work on

Homework
  • Homework is due at the start of class, and is graded mainly for completion and ability to utilize problem solving processes.  However, I also check for accuracy of work to help students with certain things while in class.  It is your child's responsibility to have his/her homework out and ready to be checked at the start of class.  Over the years, I have asked for my students' help in creating a scoring process that is both fair and rigorous.  Homework scores are as follows, and will take effect Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
    • 10 points - homework is turned in on time, it is complete, ALL directions were followed, and work was shown
    • 7 points - homework was turned in late (up to 2 days), but complete and followed ALL directions and work was shown OR homework was turned in on time, but mostly done, directions were followed and work was mostly shown for all problems.
    • 5 points - homework was turned in on time, but is partially done, work was partially shown and/or directions were partially followed. Homework turned in late, but containing incomplete work, or shows a lack of following directions will be an automatic 5.
    • 0 points - homework is mostly incomplete, directions were not followed at all OR not turned in at all

**Homework that was turned in on time or in the window to be considered late, but received a 0, can be redone and turned in the following day for a maximum score of 7.  It will be your child's responsibility to do this and to show me the work.

**If your child is absent, it is their responsibility to get the homework from me and/or see me for clarification on what they missed.  It also the student's responsibility to show me their made up work.  Per UCPS policy, students have 2 days per days absent to complete and turn in the homework for it to be considered on time.

**I only check if online assignments are turned in on the day they are due.  After that, it is the responsibility of the student to show me their completed work as I no longer check to see if they have been turned in.**

Test Corrections
  • Students who score below a 70 on any assessment will have the opportunity to do corrections.  They will receive a maximum score of 70 depending on the quality of the corrections.  Corrections need to be done ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER and be stapled to the assessment to be turned in.  It will be up to the student to do the corrections and hand them in.

Extra Credit
  • Extra credit assignments are not given, as we feel very strongly about students putting effort into their "regular credit".  At times, extra credit points are given on quizzes and/or tests.
