Welcome to ART ~ Art is a Subject
This is an Introductory Course! Sixth Graders will learn the basic building blocks of art, some techniques, art history, and procedures.
Week 1-3: Learning About the Elements of Art ~ Art Folder Collage
Students are introduced to introductory art vocabulary; art mediums, technical skills, craftsmanship, and composition. Sixth grade art students will learn that art is created using the elements of art, these are the building blocks for an artist. This is a time for me to assess what students remember and/or learned from elementary school. Students will create an art folder cover focusing on three out of the seven elements of art; line, shape, and color. Students are graded on all art projects based a set of criteria given during instructions and how well they executed the directions provided.
- Parents and sixth graders, please note that one art quiz is given on the elements of art during the third week of art. Study, this grade will effect your overall grade for art.
- Parents, please be sure to ask your 6th grader about their grade in art!
Week 4-5: Basic Color Theory
Sixth graders will review the basic color wheel and are introduced to basic color theory terms. Art students will paint a color wheel applying their understanding of color mixing using the primary colors.
Week 6: Students will create three value scales to assist them in their understanding of how value creates three dimension when used on a two dimensional surface.
Drawing Assignment
Sixth graders are given one drawing assignment for this 6 weeks.
Visual art students are to design a tree house based upon a set of drawing criteria given in class. The elements of art focused on for this art project are line, shape, color, form, value, texture, and space.

- Students have 5 grades that are recorded for this 6 weeks.
