Dear Student and Parent / Guardians,

Welcome to Spanish 2!I look forward to being your teacher this semester as you study the Spanish Language and Culture. We will be building upon what was taught in Spanish I.  It is necessary for you to be well organized with your daily work, homework, tests and participation in and outside of class.  There will be many new grammatical concepts taught and vocabulary using daily routines, travel, childhood memories and more.  Keeping up with your work on a daily basis is essential to your success in this class.

 

Materials:

  1. A three ring binder
  2. Notebook paper
  3. 2 pocket folder
  4. Pens and pencils
  5. Spanish – English dictionary
  6. Ear buds

 

Expectations:

 

  1. Follow directions
  2. Show respect for everyone
  3. Be in your seat and ready to work as soon as the bell rings
  4. Always come to class prepared
  5. No use of cell phones allowed

 

 

 

Grading:

Students will be given a variety of evaluations to determine the extent of their knowledge.  This will be accomplished through exercises in writing, reading, oral and listening tests, quizzes and homework.  They will demonstrate their knowledge of Interpersonal Communication, Interpretive Communication, Presentational Communication and Culture.

Test: Given at the end of each unit and will be cumulative, ranging from 50 – 100 pts.

Quizzes: Normally notified ahead of time, but a pop quiz may be necessary. Quizzes may be oral as well as written, ranging from 10 – 50 pts.

Homework: Assigned most nights and will be checked daily. Points range from 10 – 50 pts.

Make-up work:  According to the Union Co. School Handbook, students are to complete any missed work when absent.  Assignments given before the absence are due the day the student returns to school.  If a test or quiz missed, the student has up to 2 days to make it up.  It is the responsibility of the student, not the teacher to find out what work was missed.

 

Course Outline:

Students will review some of the fundamentals of Spanish 1.  New grammar concepts, such as direct and indirect object pronouns, present progressive as well as formal and informal commands.  Students will also learn to conjugate verbs into the preterite and imperfect tenses.  New vocabulary includes ailments, remedies, daily routines, traveling, parts of the town, and childhood pastimes.  Cultural diversity will also be a major part of our studies.

 

Tutoring:

Tutoring will be offered after school on Thursdays from 3:45 until 4:00

 HOW TO GET SPANISH KEYBOARD:

1. For the vowels á, é, í, ó, ú simply hit the APOSTROPHE key then the vowel.

2. For the ñ, simply hold SHIFT and the ~ key, then hit the n.

3. For the punctuation ¿ simply hit the RIGHT ALT key AND the Question Mark key. 

4. For the punctuation ¡ simply hit the RIGHT ALT key AND the NUMBER 1 key.

5. For the vowel ü simply hit the SHIFT key then the APOSTROPHE (quotation mark) key then the vowel.
