Course Syllabus

Welcome to Mr. Akerman's Math I class.

Course Description: This course extends the mathematical knowledge you gained in pre-algebra. We will comprehend all concepts listed below. There is an state EOC exam in this class.

Course Expectations:  All assignments will be submitted in class . It is expected that you attempt the assignments each day and come prepared to ask questions  during class. Most assignments will be graded on attempt; however, occasionally it may be graded for accuracy.  The course is broken up into units, with an assessment after each unit. Attendance is important, if you are absent please make sure to compete the missing assignment when you return to school. It is your responsibility to get any and all make-up work turned in on time. Tutoring is offered on before school through appointments.

Canvas: All assignments and classroom notes will be posted on our canvas page and is accessible for students at any time. 

Grading Scale:  50% assignments,  50% assessments

Class Supplies:  Pencil, Paper, Chrome Book, dry erase markers

Make -up work policy

  • Make-up work is due to absences
  • 2 days per absence for make-up work
  • After 2 days, make-up work will follow late work policy

Late Work Policy 

  • Anytime before the Unit Test the Highest score will be an 80%
  • Anytime after the Unit Test the Highest score will be a 60%

Make-ups for Assessments

  • Absent on the review day: No new material is presented so you will take the assessment with the rest of the class as scheduled.
  • Absent on the assessment day: If student does not take the assessment during the allotted time in Canvas, it is the student’s responsibility to contact me in order to make this up.
  • Progress checks: if student does not take progress check during the allotted window in Canvas, it is the student’s responsibility to contact me in order to make this up.

 Classroom Expectations

  • All students should be respectful to any adults in the classroom as well with any peer that is in the classroom 
  • Students should give their best effort every day and come to class ready to learn and participate

Tardy Policy

I will follow the policy provided by PRHS.  Any student late for class must have a valid pass to enter.

Hall Passes

Each student asking to leave class for any reason must have written permission from the teacher.  No student will be released during the first 15 minutes and last 15 minutes of class. 

Cheating/Plagiarism (NO TOLERENCE POLICY)

A ZERO will be given to all people involved.  Cheating/plagiarism is not acceptable or tolerated on any type of assignment or assessment - including homework, in-class work, progress checks and assessments.

Cell Phones & Electronics

Cell phones or other electronics will not be allowed unless given teacher permission.  I will follow the PRHS policy regarding cell phones and other electronics.
