AP United States Government and Politics Syllabus 2022-2-1.docx

Late Work:

Doing your work on time is very important.  However, sick, vacations etc always pop up.  Please get with me in a timely fashion to get all of your work in so it can be graded.  I will be flexible with every assignment especially during this year when Covid still may cause issues.  As long as I get the work by the end of the Unit, that is the expectation.  If you have circumstances that go outside of that, just email me or bring it to my attention and we will work though each issue to benefit you the most.

Before going any further, I want to make something very clear from the outset of this course......

THIS CLASS IS ABOUT GOVERNMENT, THE HISTORY, AND EVOLUTION OF GOVERNMENT AND HOW IT IS NOT ONLY EXACT, BUT FLUID. MEANING...EVERYONE CAN HAVE AN OPINION. IT DOES NOT MATTER TO ME WHAT THAT OPINION IS.  IT'S YOURS, SO IT'S 100% OK WITH ME, AND I WILL HELP YOU EXPRESS AND UNDERSTAND YOUR OPINION AS MUCH AS I CAN.  I WILL ALSO CHALLENGE YOUR OPINION....NOT TO CHANGE YOUR MIND, ONLY TO OFFER YOU PERSPECTIVES THAT COULD AND POSSIBLY CHANGE YOUR OPINION, BUT THAT WILL ENTIRELY BE UP TO YOU.  EVERY SIDE OF EVERY ARGUMENT, DEBATE, OR CONSPIRACY WILL BE ALLOWED AND DISCUSSED.  THE PURPOSE OF EDUCATION IS TO GET YOUNG PEOPLE TO THINK AND THINK FOR YOURSELVES...WHAT I THINK SHOULD NOT BE OF HUGE IMPORTANCE TO YOU , OTHER THAN TO HELP YOU SHAPE WHAT IT IS THAT YOU WANT TO THINK.

Contained in the Syllabus is the outline and details of the course for a typical semester

Having said that....it is detailed for specifics pertained to this semester 2021.  I wanted to also provide some addendums and added comments for you in order to be clear, precise and absolutely specific on expectations for this semester.

First, Although I can not "Mandate" certain things....I can provide "points" towards your grade for certain behaviors, performance and actions.  The following list will be encompassed into a grade that will greatly assist in the points towards your overall grade:

Participation is huge.  I expect questions, discussion, debate, etc....although I do ask you respect others opinions and points, regardless of whether you agree or disagree.  Everyone should have a forum to discuss topics.  "Hogging" the floor is sometimes good...but sometimes bad.  Just be respectful and that should go a long way.

This is a college level course and you will be treated as such.  You are expected to engage in class and will be rewarded through both participation and engagement

Attendance is huge.  I will take role at the beginning of class, and like a job or game....showing up is half the battle!
