COURSE DESCRIPTION
Adobe Video Design is a semester long, project-based curriculum that develops career and communication skills in digital video production, using Adobe tools.

Digital Video curriculum develops four key skill areas:

    • Project management and collaboration
    • Design
    • Research and communication
    • Professional video production, using video tools

MATERIALS REQUIRED

    • Headphones (will be used often)
    • A writing utensil
    • Paper
    • Flash Drive (at least 32 GB)

INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY
In Career and Technical Education (CTE)/Career Readiness classes, students are expected to work on their own, in pairs, and in groups throughout the semester. Students will complete many hands on projects utilizing various software applications.  Students will be empowered and encouraged to be active participants in their own learning process.

Adobe Certified Associate in Video Communication using Adobe Premiere Pro Exam objectives:

UNIT ONE: Setting project requirements
1.1      Identify the purpose, audience, and audience needs for preparing video.
1.2      Identify video content that is relevant to the project purpose and appropriate for the target audience.
1.3      Demonstrate knowledge of standard copyright rules (related terms, obtaining permission, and citing copyrighted material).
1.4      Demonstrate knowledge of the production planning and management process.

UNIT TWO: Identifying design elements when preparing video
2.1      Demonstrate knowledge of how to organize and plan a video sequence.
2.2      Identify general principles for video shooting.
2.3      Demonstrate knowledge of visual techniques for enhancing video content.
2.4      Demonstrate knowledge of using audio to enhance video content.
2.5      Demonstrate knowledge of using still images to enhance video content.
2.6      Communicate with others (such as peers and clients) about design and content plans.


UNIT THREE: Understanding the Adobe Premiere Pro interface
3.1      Identify elements of the Adobe Premiere Pro interface.
3.2      Identify the functions of Adobe Premiere Pro interface elements.
3.3      Organize and customize the Adobe Premiere Pro workspace.


UNIT 4: Editing a video sequence with Adobe Premiere Pro
4.1      Import media assets (video, image, and audio files).
4.2      Organize and manage video clips in a sequence.
4.3      Trim clips.
4.4     Manage sound in a video sequence.
4.5     Manage superimposed text and shapes in a video sequence.
4.6     Add and manage effects and transitions in a video sequence.


UNIT 5: Exporting video with Adobe Premiere Pro
5.1     Demonstrate knowledge of export options for video.
5.2     Demonstrate knowledge of how to export video from Adobe Premiere Pro.

100 – 90 = A                                                                                       
  89 – 80 = B                                                                                           
  79 – 70 = C                                                                                           
  69 –60 = D                                                                                  
  59 or below = F
75% of semester grade: Daily work, tests/quizzes, projects
25% of semester grade: Final Exam

CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular attendance is required.  Your presence in class is crucial since most of the activities in this course occur during class time.  Your active participation will enhance your success as well as that of your classmates.  Be active in class!  Participate in class discussions!  Your opinions, input, and questions are what this class is all about!  Class attendance is part of your final grade.

Credit will not be granted for classes when absences for a student reach eight days for a semester long course and fifteen days for a yearlong course. Absences include those that are lawful, unlawful, and due to suspension.

Following any absence(s), a student is required to present a written document from the parent or guardian stating the reason for the absence.

 

STUDENT USE OF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT/INTERNET

Please READ pages 53 – 54 in your UCPS handbook and pages 14 -16 of your CATA student handbook regarding appropriate use of computer equipment/internet and consequences for misuse of both.

LATE/MAKE-UP WORK

Assignments are due on the announced due date. It is your responsibility to keep up with class activities and assignments and request missing assignments due to absence.  Upon returning from an excused absence, students will be given two days for each day absence to make up missed assignments/test.  When arrangements are not made to complete make-up work or if work is not submitted on time, the student will receive a grade of 0%

New Schoolwide policy:  Work that has recieved a 0 and cannot be made up will have a 0 in the gradebook.  If it has not been turned in but still may be completed for a grade, it will have a score of 1.

TARDY POLICY

Students are expected to be in class when the tardy bell rings. A student is tardy when he/she is not in the classroom or laboratory where his/her class regularly meets when the bell begins to ring.  Student must report to office for an admittance slip.  A tardy will be recorded.   Please see CATA Handbook for tardy policy and consequences.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

 

Please note:  Bottled water is allowed.  The privilege will be removed if containers are not disposed of properly.  Water is not allowed near the computers, and must remain at the desk.

  • To act in a manner that is respectful and courteous
  • Show respect and courtesy for all class members and the teachers

Disrespect WILL NOT be tolerated! 

  • Be prepared daily with all required materials
  • Be punctual – be seated quietly and ready to begin when the bell rings
  • Conduct themselves in a manner which respects all students’ right to learn
  • Follow all verbal and written instructions from the teacher
  • Use time between class to take care of restroom needs

(If there is a medical reason, a doctor’s note is required)

  • Begin working on your pre-class assignment at the beginning – you may use your textbook, notes and homework, however this is an individual task
  • Stay seated until the teacher dismisses class
  • Contact teacher with any questions concerning a grade

(Progress reports are issued in the middle of each 6 weeks period.   You may schedule an appointment for tutoring, if needed)
