1. You must have a shoebox to work with.
4. You will use your list of actions, images, mood, and theme to design a single, abstract,
3-dimensional set inside of the shoebox. You will transform a shoebox into a miniature
proscenium stage simply by placing it on its side. (You may make a thrust stage if they use
the lid as an apron, but their “set” should extend to the back wall of the space.)
5. You will create a single scene in the box that embodies the mood and theme of your
a. The interior of the box may be incorporated into their design. Or they should be
considered as the backstage “walls” of their “theatre,” and must be decorated
b. The design on their stage must be 3-dimensional. You can utilize appropriate
small items they have around their house, or the may use miniature flats and set pieces
they create themselves. Students can also create abstract shapes and objects, if that
best illustrates the mood and theme of their song. YOU MAY NOT SIMPLY
PASTE IMAGES ONTO THE SIDES OF THE BOX!
c. You must pay specific attention to the lines, shapes, and colors found within their
designs. You should be able to discuss how they used these aspects of their design to
help create mood and theme.
