Welcome to Interior Design Fundamentals.  I am looking forward to a GREAT semester.  I have high expectations for you and what you will be learning.  This course is an important class that will teach you skills that you will use the rest of your life.  I expect 100% effort from each of you! There are some important things that you need to know that will make our year run smoothly and provide the best environment for you to learn. 

Class Description: 

Course Description:  This course engages students in exploring various interior design professions, while building the content knowledge and technical skills necessary to provide a foundational knowledge of the design industry. Emphasis is placed on the interior design process; human, environmental and behavioral factors; color theory, elements and principles of design; hand sketching/digital design techniques, space planning, selection of products and materials for residential interiors; client relationship building and design communication techniques. English/language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, art, and technology are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies appropriate include business & industry field trip, cooperative education, entrepreneurship, internship, mentorship, school-based enterprise, service learning, and job shadowing. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

 MATERIALS:

  1. 3-ring binder ( 1 ½ inches) with Loose-leaf notebook paper and Dividers
  2. Pens, pencils, highlighters, sharpie   
  3. Magic Markers   
  4. Ruler 
  5. Colored Pencil 
  6. Glue Stick

Grading : 

 

  1. Class Participation/Daily Work    50%             
  2. Tests/quizzes                              25%
  3. Notebook/Projects                      25%                 

 PROCEDURES:

  1. Starting Class:
    • Bring all necessary materials with you to class
    • Sharpen all pencils & get materials out before class begins.  
  2. During Class:
    • No talking during announcements
    • Remain quiet and attentive during teacher instruction
    • Participate in class discussions with relevant thoughts and ideas. Raise hand if you have a question or comment.
    • Be respectful to everyone in your group
  • All group members are expected to participate
  • All group members are responsible for making sure classroom is the way you found it. Leaving the classroom not properly cleaned will result in a grade deduction.

4.  Leaving seat

  • Only when directed by the teacher

5. Leaving room

  • Only with hall pass (school-wide policy)
  • Only if absolutely necessary.  

6. Turning in assignments

  • Must include first and last name at the top of your paper along with block number. 
  • You can write in pen or pencil, but all work must be neat.
  • All assignments must be turned into the appropriate bin or place.

7. Leaving class

  • We do NOT line up at the door at the end of class.  With 2 minutes left in class, you may pack up your things.  Remain in your seat until the bell rings. 

8. Absences/Make-up work

  • It is your responsibility to obtain make-up work.  
  • You must schedule missed tests with me.
  • Remember your attendance is 5% of your grade
    • 0 - 1 absence - 100
    • 2 - 3 - 90
    • 4 - 5 - 80
    • 5 - 6 -70
    • 7 - 8 -60
    • more than 8 - 50

9.  Miscellaneous

  • Teacher’s desk is off limits unless given permission.
  • All students are required to take the final exam.
  • Any electronic devices (cell phones, iPods, etc.) must be turned OFF and out of sight during class. You may listen to music while we are doing independent work.
  • Magazines – if you get a magazine out, make sure it goes back neatly and properly.
  • NO GUM or Food.

Proof of Learning : 

State Assessment - Students enrolled in Apparel & Textile Production I will take a 100 question state assessment at the end of the semester as the final measurement of proof of learning.     This assessment will be given during the final week of the semester as their final exam.     The student’s grade for this assessment will count 25% and will be posted in PowerSchool as well as on their report card.
