Advanced Placement United States History

Welcome to Mr. Turk’s class, I hope that you all are settling into a very different school year than any we’ve had before! As such, instructional approaches and use of technology have been modified. Very little paper will be used during this course as far as handouts and/or student work submission. Student email, Canvas and MS Teams will be utilized for student/teacher communication, lesson delivery, assignment/submission, resources and materials.

This is my seventh year at Monroe High School and my twenty-second year in education. Most of my career has been in eastern North Carolina, including two years as an assistant principal. I am excited to be back in Union County and teaching at my alma mater.

I grew up in Monroe and graduated MHS in 1985. After high school, I served in the U.S. Navy as an Operations Specialist and travelled extensively in Asia and the western Pacific. I am a graduate of George C. Wallace State Community College (AS), Troy University (BS- Social Science/Secondary Education), and East Carolina University (MSA-School Administration). I achieved National Board certification in 2003 and I am Advanced Placement certified in both United States History and World History.
