Spanish 3 Honors

Bienvenidos a Español tres, an upper class that it is conducted mainly in Spanish and the students are required to speak this language always in class, as well. Spanish 3 is a challenging level, which requires a lot of commitment, dedication, responsibility, practice and hard work not only in the classroom, but also after school. There will be lots of new and useful vocabulary as well as challenging and complex grammar structures, which need to be learned, and mastered. Since it is an honor course the expectations are very high.

Course description NCSCS:  This is a Pre- AP/IB course with Honors weight. This course is a prerequisite for the Spanish AP/IB program and it is recommended that the student complete the course with a minimum final average of a 77 or higher if he/she expects success in the next level. For the AP track, the students will follow this course with Spanish 4. 5/AP. For the IB program, the courses that follow are IB Junior Yr. 1 and IB Senior Yr. 2.  Also, we will have a strong technology component throughout the course to develop students’ 21st Century Skills.  This course will be taught and conduced only in Spanish

For this level, the student will work with REALIDADES 3 textbook (it is given online). These six chapters need to be covered, studied and mastered in this semester:

 

  • Para Empezar
  • Capítulo 1 ,
  • Capítulo 2 and
  • Capítulo 3

 

Behavior Guidelines

Spanish Classroom Rules

First of all, please review the student handbook with respect to school rules, procedures and consequences.

 

  1. Be in seats in silence before the tardy bell rings.
  2. Place your cellphone into the bag at the entrance
  3. Raise your hand for permission to speak or to leave the classroom.
  4. No eating, chewing gum, drinking (unless medical recommendation), sleeping or grooming during class.
  5. Come prepared to class with all required materials (Chromebook, pencils, headphones, notebook, etc)
  6. Sign out/in when leaving the classroom. (Restroom, office, etc.) and take the pass with you.
  7. Turn on and use your computer until your teacher asks for it; if not, keep it off and closed.
  8. Use your computer only for educational purposes (no games, sport videos, etc.).
  9. If the student breaks any of the school or classroom rule, it will be considered as an offence or incident.

Besides, if the student is not working properly, stopping me teaching or preventing others from learning he/ she will be sent to ISS or to the class of other Spanish Teacher. Reminder: Telephones are not allowed to be used in my classroom at all. If student is caught using the cellphone, it will be confiscated and taken to the office. In there, they keep a record of telephone offences. They know how to proceed with it.

Grading policy

I grade on a point system. A total of the points a student receives divided by the total of points assigned will determine the student grade. The following will be aspects to be evaluated:

In this level there will be individual as well as group projects.

These will be announced in advance. One per Chapter.( 1A-B, 2A-B, etc)

It is given on nightly basis.

 

Note: No extra-credit assignments are given at any time. The student has to be committed to do extra-effort in all regular assignments.

Make- up policy

According to county policy:

  • Students have three days to make up work missed after an absence.
  • Work not made up during this time will result in a zero (0).
  • This is the students´ responsibility.
  • I will have a schedule on my door at all times for students to sign up for make-up times.
  • Please review this procedure with your child.
  • No exceptions will be made.
  • CANVAS and GOOGLE CLASSROOM will be the places to check what was done while the absence.

 

In order to make up quizzes, tests, exams and some other assignments, the student must be early in the morning (7:20 - 7:50 am) or after school (3:00 – 3:30 pm).

 None of the assignments mentioned before will be made up during a daily basis class.

 

Tardy policy

 

Students should not be tardy without a note. They miss a great deal of class at a very beginning.

However, for unexcused absences, follow the policy in the student handbook.

Parents and students alike, please make sure both of you have read this information carefully, please keep this letter for a future reference. Simply sign the slip below and return it to me the second day of school for this is your child´s first required daily grade. Thank you for your cooperation. Let´s have a great semester.

 

Note: The class will be dismissed by Ms. Gonzalez The bell does not dismiss the class, it only announces the teacher that the class is over. Hanging around the exit door before the bell rings will be considered a disciplinary offence.
