Mission Statement: The mission of Physical Education is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life.

**The Weekly A/B calendar link is posted under Assignments.  Click on the calendar if you're not sure if you have P.E. class that day. There will be assignment links for you to complete dependent upon your A/B schedule.  You should have class two or three times per week, depending on your A/B schedule.**

If you have any questions feel free to contact me by e-mail during the office hours listed above.  I will try to answer any questions or concerns.  Feel free to contact me by email any other time.  This is just the time that we have set aside specifically each week for you.

Physical Education Guidelines

Wear athletic shoes every day!  You are encouraged to bring a water bottle!  No one will be allowed to enter the locker rooms. You will not be dressing out. Please wear clothes to school you can exercise in according to the school dress code. You will be required to wear your mask while exercising. Unfortunately, we will not be able to share equipment which limits many of the activities we can do.  Work to get strong and healthy!

DAILY CLASS EXPECTATIONS

1.  Look for a Canvas announcement every other day, letting you know class expectations for your day.

2.  Expectations are that all students attend live sessions during their scheduled P.E. class block, when not in attendance for face-to-face class sessions

I use Microsoft Teams as our learning platform.  I have teams specific to each P.E. block, P.E. A-Day and P.E. B-day.  I begin my session at 2:55 p.m.  This gives me time to get face-to-face students settled and ready for class to begin.  P.E. live session links are posted on the Canvas calendar.  Click on the correct date and link to join.**  Live sessions last about fifteen to thirty minutes, occasionally longer.  I will take attendance and complete calisthenics with students. Then students move on to complete the Canvas assignment in the appropriate "Module" for that day.

**MS Teams:  Some students are still having trouble accessing MS Teams.  They are getting the error message that "only people with access to the organization can join the meeting.  If you have an account log in..."  Under that message is a button "Dismiss".  To get to Teams, have students click the "Dismiss" button, then a log in screen will appear.  Students should enter their log in credentials without "students." For example:  456776@ucps.k12.nc.us.  Next, they should enter their password, and then they should be able to get to your meeting.

3.  Log into Canvas, and attend live class session with me to take attendance and complete the Calisthenics daily warm-up, then follow the directions below:

a.  Remote learning:  Go to, Modules, in the navigation bar on the left and click on appropriate assignment for your class day.  The assignment should take no more than thirty minutes to complete and submit.  Most will be due that same day.  Check your Canvas calendar to make sure they are completed and submitted on time.   If you cannot attend the live session, then complete the Calisthenics and Cardio section, as well.

 b.  Face-to-face sessions:  We will focus on items that need more visual or hands-on practice.

You will have access to Canvas assignments each week beginning on Monday.
Make sure you check all Canvas Announcements on your assigned A/B class day and be sure to check your Canvas Calendar daily.

Canvas: The majority of assignments will be submitted on our "learning platform," Canvas.  Assignments can be submitted a variety of ways including, uploading files, typing into text boxes, and sharing Google documents/presentations.  Students not having used Canvas before should alert the teacher and they will be shown how to submit assignments on Canvas.  Individual assignments will indicate which method of submission on Canvas is expected.  If students need a refresher or have questions, they can access the Canvas Student GuideLinks to an external site.Links to an external site. for specific instructions.  It is the student's responsibility to ensure assignments are submitted on time and to contact the instructor if there is a problem.  The Canvas Learning Platform logs every student log-in on Canvas which provides teachers with a list of when students log-in to Canvas using their user I.D.

Grades

*Face-to-face/Remote students can earn up to 10 points for each day of physical education class.

+5 points:  Completion of Calisthenics/Cardio warm-up section during live session (on their own if unable to attend live session) before the assignment for their P.E. day

+5 points:  Participation Assignment completion in Canvas, or in face-to-face class session on their assigned P.E. day

*Grades will be updated weekly in Power School.
*All assignments will be listed by name/date for each week in Power School.
*It is very important to abide by due dates on Canvas.

Late Work
If a student completes an assignment late (after I have entered it in Power School), he or she must email me to let me know which assignment has been completed so I will know to go look for that assignment.  Late work can be turned in up to three days before the end of the current six week term.  Email the P.E. teacher to let them know that a late assignment has been turned in to be graded.

Attendance
Attendance will be taken each day.
I will take attendance during our live session each day.  If you cannot attend the live session that day, you must fill out the attendance link.  (Daily PE Requirements Module, SECOND LINK)
