                        Tests: 60%

                        Quizzes: 30%

                        Homework/Classwork: 10%

  1. For some lessons, graphic organizers will be posted on my canvas page. This is a helpful way to complete notes.  You do not need to use them, you may take notes on a separate piece of paper.  However, it is imperative you take notes.

  1. Live Streaming: Please check your canvas calendar for the link for the live streaming of the lesson. If you are unable to attend the live streaming for any reason, the recording will be posted in my canvas page under units.

  1. Homework will be assigned every day.
  • Homework for Monday-Thursday will be posted daily in canvas. This can be done on a piece of notebook paper or you may choose to print it out.  This homework will not be checked daily, however, it is very important for you to complete for practice.  The answers will always be posted in canvas the next day.
  • Every Friday you will have homework through either Deltamath.com or canvas platform. I will state in class where you find the homework.  This will be a graded assignment.  The homework will cover the material that was taught for the week.  You can find instructions on how to create a deltamath account on my homepage on canvas.

  1. You will be given a warm-up assignment at the beginning of every class period. If you are in person, there is to be NO talking.

  1. Tests and quizzes will be given throughout the semester. I will announce all tests and exams several days in advance.

  1. Tests and Quizzes: these will be given on the computer either through schoolnet or canvas. You are required to complete the quiz during your block time (unless you are on Plan D- all virtual). If you are a Plan D student, the test and quiz must be done on the scheduled day.  All tests and quizzes are to be done individually, even if you are on your remote day.  It is still considered cheating if you are receiving the help from an application, person, or any classroom notes.

  1. You will be required to show COMPLETE WORK on every TEST. This work will be submitted through canvas assignments.  No work will result in loss of points.  If you are absent on test or quiz day, please contact me and per Union County policy, you will have 2 days after you “return” to make up a test or quiz, otherwise, you will receive a “0”.

  1. There are no extra credit opportunities or test corrections for this class so please do not ask.

  1. Attendance: Please check the canvas calendar for the link for the live streaming of the lesson each day.  This is how attendance will be taken.

  1. Cheating: Cheating is not allowed and will have disciplinary actions if caught.  If you taking a test or quiz remotely, you are not allowed to get the help of another person, application, or any classroom notes.  This is still concerned cheating!

  1. Website: I update my website very frequently.  Videos of the lesson will be posted by the end of the day.  Also, notes that were completed in class will be posted on web page.  If you are struggling on homework, it is highly recommended you look back at my completed notes and videos.  If you are absent, please watch the recorded lessons and copy the completed notes. Since everything is posted on canvas, please do not ask me what you missed.  Parents, please check the website frequently if you have any questions about what material has been covered or what your child may have missed when absent.  You can access this through the Marvin Ridge webpage.

  1. Extra Help: If you come across any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. Give me at least 24-48 hours to respond.

  1. Friday Remote Day: If you need any extra help with topics from the week, please send me an e-mail by Thursday at 7:00 pm with specific questions. I will then help answer those questions for the first 30 minutes of the scheduled class time.  This will be held on Microsoft teams.  If I do not receive an e-mail from anyone by the specified time, I will not be holding a conference.

  1. Classroom Policy:
  1. Please raise your hand and do not talk while I, the teacher, or a fellow peer is talking. Respect towards me and your classmates is a must.

I will not acknowledge you unless you raise your hand!

  1. You must be in your seat and ready to start your warm-up when the bell rings.
  2. You must come to class prepared with your notebook, a pencil, paper, your calculator, and homework.
  3. When class work or homework is given, I expect you to be working on it quietly.
  4. Absolutely NO FOOD in class, if you come in with them, I will take them away immediately!!
  5. You must ask to use the restroom. But this is only during independent.  You are not to interrupt the instruction unless it is an emergency.
  6. There is absolutely no group work or partner work allowed. You must remain 6 feet apart.
  7. Cell phones are not to be used or seen on campus during school hours per UCPS policy. This has become a problem particularly during class time.  They are to be put on silent and placed in an assigned pocket once you enter the classroom. Any student who is found using his/her phone during my class will receive the following consequences:  will be turned in to the front office.

Parents – Teachers need your help in monitoring the use of cell phones during school hours.  If you need to speak with your child during school hours, please call the school and they will send a message or call the student to the phone.  Text messaging is another major problem for teachers that parents need to address.  We can’t express enough that class time is for learning and not for talking to friends or even parents via cell phone.  I truly appreciate all the help you can give toward this matter.  Thanks in advance!

Dear Parents,

If you have any questions or concerns at any time throughout the year, please feel free to email me at the high school at sibel.hovis@ucps.k12.nc.us.  Please give me 48 hours to respond.  I look forward to working with your child this year; I hope it is a successful one!
