CLASS PROCEDURES:

Expectations during Hybrid Learning: Students are going to be expected to log on each day in real time. So, if you have me first period you are expected to be logged in and ready to learn first period. Each day we will have a Google Meet, a discussion piece, and an activity piece. Grades will be put into Power School each week, so please check with me when you have a concern. Instruction will be Monday-Thursday. Friday will be a day for parents and students to ask for additional help. It will be a day of remediation. This is fantastic, because if you need to make up any work, I will be free all day to help you with the course work! This is an Honors class so be prepared to work and learn difficult concepts. If you get behind in this course it will be difficult to catch up.

When school is back to A Day: Students should be in their seats when the bell rings (and on my daily Google Meet Live sessions at the start of each class). During my Google Meet, I will go over pertinent instruction and information, as well as reviews for online quizzes, so please make EVERY effort to be 'live' with us on class!

Students will have daily assignments and projects. All work completed is for a grade. Work is to be completed BEFORE the bell unless otherwise instructed!  If you are absent, you will have one day to turn in missing work for FULL credit. After one day, the grading scale will be as follows: 2 days late: - 25% / 3 days late: - 50% / More than 4 days late: NO credit.

Phone Policy: Student smartphones should remain in your pocket / pocketbook unless otherwise instructed by me. During lecture, students who have phones out and are not engaged / listening / participating in discussion will have 5 points taken off weekly quizzes for first daily offense. Each subsequent offense will result in 10 points off and an email to parents. Students who typically fail my class or make poor grades are ones who don’t turn in quality work / projects ON TIME, put smartphone usage above what’s being covered in class, don’t take notes or ask questions and are constantly tardy and/or out a substantial amount of the class. If you fail, it’s because of YOU, not society, your peers or your teacher.

Quizzes will be every Friday on the material covered in class. If you are out, it is YOUR responsibility to catch up.

CLASS DAILY ROUTINE: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Accountable. Come to class READY TO LEARN and BE PRESENT in what we are doing in class!

**For those coming from middle school: That part of your life is OVER. Being a high school student requires mature behavior and work ethic! You are on your way to adulthood, so please act accordingly. Remember to use "polite words." Clean up after yourself (I will check around your desk. If it is not clean, you will lose quiz points).**

CONSEQUENCES FOR BEHAVIOR ISSUES - 1st: Warning, 2nd: Loss of grade points and an email to parents, 3rd: Write up / Possible ISS or ASD, email to parents AND loss of grade points. Want the A? EARN the A.

ATTENDANCE: The school attendance policy will be strictly followed.

1 to 6 absences….make up work must be done for credit AND ON TIME (see my makeup work policy above). 7 or more absences…..no credit for the class

TARDIES: When the bell rings, you MUST be seated (or, if remote, on GOOGLE MEET which will have links for each day of class). Walking through the door is still LATE. The door will be shut as soon as the bell rings. To enter class, you will need a slip of admittance from a verified source such as another teacher or administrator. NO EXCEPTIONS. In the real world, you could lose your job if you are consistently late. Learn these valuable time management skills now! The school tardy policy will be followed as stated in the student handbook. Bottom line: get here on time! If you are late you may be required to attend ASD.

CLASS PARTICIPATION AND EXPECTATIONS:  You are expected to come to class prepared with PREFERABLY a notebook, paper, pencil, and pen daily. You should be prepared to work daily in class until the end of the class. You will have 3 minutes to clean up your stations before leaving. You should be aware that this is a lab atmosphere; therefore, you should be patient and wait quietly for help if the teacher is helping other students.  You should be prepared to answer questions to the best of your ability when called upon.

Bathroom Rule (if you are present in class): If you need to use the restroom, please use my GOOGLE FORM in the folder near the top of the page. Bathroom visits should be done between classes. You must be present and in class during the first and last 5 minutes of class. Please wait until AFTER I give daily instruction to ask. Do not interrupt class to ask unless it is a vital emergency.

MISSED ASSIGNMENTS AND TESTS:

  • Second Semester Late Work Policy
    • Teachers determine due dates of specific assignments.
    • Assignments turned in on time will receive 100% of credit earned.
    • Assignments turned in late, but before the end of the current unit will receive 75% of earned credit. Example: A student turns in an assignment that would have received 80 points if on time, will earn 80x75% = 60 points.
    • Assignments turned in late after the end of the unit, but before the end of the grading period will receive 50% of earned credit. Example: A student turns in an assignment that would have received 80 points if on time, will earn 80x50% = 40 points.
    • “Excused” absences need to be considered when determining what is “late”.

Knowledge Matters: Virtual Business Series: Sports and Entertainment Marketing Module Certification:

Throughout this semester, you will be given an opportunity to “work” in the exciting sports and entertainment world! This required online simulation will help teach you the hard business decisions that go into the sports and entertainment events that we all enjoy in real life. You will handle promotion, ticket pricing, stadium operations and staffing, sponsors, concessions, concert booking and promotion, and more!

You will work at your own pace on this module throughout the semester. Your goal is to turn a $5 million dollar PROFIT by the start of the Christmas break. This will require to work in AND out of the classroom on all game modules, INCLUDING the Final Game where YOU are in charge of all operations and decisions! Certification completion will equal a MAJOR TEST GRADE of 100 (A+)! Your PROJECT grade for this semester long assignment will depend on how well you progress through the simulation. I will hand out benchmarks for this project within the first week of school. You will be graded on completing each benchmark with at least a 70% passing grade on each Step / Module! Take your time, LEARN how each module works, read through the READING material, learn the business math for each, and then be prepared to compete against your classmates in the final GAME SIMULATION! The first to reach the $5 million dollar profit goal will receive CANDY of your choice! An award will also be given for the highest $ profit for the semester!
