Dear Fifth Grade STAR Student and STAR Parent,
I am happy to welcome you to the Fifth Grade and to Mrs. Shaw's STAR class! This is a place where you will shine! I look forward to a very exciting and productive 2019-2020 school year. Fifth Grade is a wonderful time in your life. You will experience an incredible amount of growth and have many opportunities for great accomplishments and success throughout the year. We will be working as a team to help ensure your continued development at Walter Bickett Elementary.
As a team, we will be working on learning to budget your time, work cooperatively, develop good study habits, and strive to achieve to your highest potential. You will learn all about force and motion, heredity and genetics, weather, body systems and cells, and ecosystems in Science. You will have a Science Project on a chosen body system, ecosystem in a box, and participate in the school's Science Fair. In Social Studies, you will learn about the history and development of the United States of America through the Civil War and complete an Explorer’s Project. In Reading and Language Arts, you will engage in guided reading and word study. Your Reading Project will consist of making a magazine. In Math, you will continue to develop your skills in whole number operations, fractions, decimals, and geometry. Your math project will include planning a party. In addition, you will be part of a team who will participate in many fun-filled Fifth Grade activities.
I am so excited to be your teacher this year and to guide you through this process. You are all stars and I know that this year you will shine! If you ever have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to call or contact me!
