General Information
Description -
In 7th grade ELA this year, you will strengthen your reading skills and broaden your interests in topics/genres through the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop model by reading a variety of literary and informational texts; talking about what you notice and understand with your classmates; and writing about your thought process. As a writer, you will learn to use the writing process to exhibit the traits of good writing in the narrative, informative and argumentative styles of communication.
Classroom Expectations -
Students are to have a novel to read every day in class along with any and all materials needed for their class. Students are to be respectful of all their peers as well as faculty and staff.

Required Materials:
- “Cow” journal
- Earbuds (Required)
- 1 1 inch binder
- 2-3 packs of Post-it notes
- Highlighters
- Colored Pencils or crayons
- Pencils
- Loose-leaf paper
- Hand held pencil sharpener
- 2-3 glue sticks
Tutoring Days and Hours:
Before school BY APPOINTMENT ONLY: Students must make arrangements with me by the end of the previous school day.

SVMS Late Work Policy
SUN VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL LATE WORK POLICY: (continued on next page)
Student work completion and responsibility is priority at the middle school level. This is encouraged and reinforced by a late work policy that challenges students to be self-directed and responsible as they improve their academic growth. All assignments are expected to be turned in by the Due Date.
Day 1- Late Work Penalty: may earn no more than 90%
Day 2- Late Work Penalty: may earn no more than 80%
Day 3 (DEADLINE)- Late Work Penalty: may earn no more than 70%
The DEADLINE is after 3 days the work will count for no more than 50% of the grade earned.
NOTE: Special consideration may be given to students who request it in writing to their teacher. This will be a teacher decision under those circumstances. The students must request this for any special consideration.
