Course Syllabus

5-27-20

Good morning.  Apologies for yesterday's assignment not being posted.  I was involved in the Senior yeabook distribution yesterday and It completely slipped my mind and I forgot to posst.

Todays will be the same as yesterday.  Watch the video clip and send me a 1 page review on aspects of the video that you were not aware of.  Economics is challenging, and sometimes very confusing, especially with how our economy works.  Interest rates, prime, and derivitives can all be things that people just shake their heads at.

The Worst Economic Collapse In History Is Starting Now: Be Prepared

Just send me an email with your response.  Again, just focus on the things that seemed completely foreign to you.

5-21-20

Ok....As far as assignments.  You have until June 4th to turn everything in.  Some conflicting data has gone out, but to be safe, Do your best to get all assignments in by then.  I have yet to post grades into powerschool for the work that is being submitted presently due to issues with powerschool adjusting the overall grade lower than what can be obtained.  When everything is all good I will begin filling in the slots so you can get credit for your work.  The key thing to remember is your T4 grade is the lowest grade you can receive, however, if you want to improve that grade, any work done after April 20th can work to improve that grade.  Hope all is well and look for next weeks assignments to be posted Tuesday morning.  Enjoy your labor day weekend!!

5-20-20

Here is your final assignment for the week:  Use the link in the assignment below to help you with plotting the points.  The online textbook should give you examples of what you should do. (Figure analysis should help)

Complete the Word document in the Files link on the left side of the screen....It's labled

"Plot the following Points"    When completed.....and I know it may be a bit difficult because we have not been able to have a hands on discussion....but just do your best.  I will post a video that will make it way more clear to you later.  Just take a picture of your "Plot the points" and email it to me.  obviously if you have difficulty.....just email me and it won't be a problem.  I know technology can sometimes be weird, so just email me with questions or concerns.

5-19-20

Assignments for this week are listed below.  I will also add the assignments listed that will begin to show up in powerschool..If you have not done them to this point...no worries....just complete all of them by June 1st ideally.  Think of these assignments as bonus points to increase your overall grade.  Questions send me an email.

5-13-20

Good Morning,

As far as this weeks assignment, since I was dealing with a lot of AP Government issues yesterday, I will post later this morning.  Regarding grading and work turned in.  It is highly likely your T5 and T6 grade will be composed of assignments you have completed while on break since April 20th.  Those of you who have turned in each assignment, you know who you are, will obviously get more "credit" than those who do not.  Keep in mind, turning work in is something that is necessary for the learning of the material for the class.  if you do not choose to do it, I can't be left accountable to help your final grade in any way.  You will likely be left with what your grade was when we went on break.  If you have questions just email me, and i will not penalize anyones grade based on work turned in, however, I will credit those who have been diligent with all these assignments to date.  Hope all is going well and please reach out as necessary.

Welcome to Civics and Economics!  In this course we will explore what it means to be full American citizens.  What are the rewards, and what are the responsibilities?  How does our government work?  What are some of the ways an average citizen can have an impact on his or her society?

Course Descriptive

TENTH GRADE CIVICS AND ECONOMICS

Through the study of Civics and Economics, students will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become responsible and effective citizens in an interdependent world. Students will need a practical understanding of these systems of civics and economics that affect their lives as consumers and citizens. Furthermore, this course serves as a foundation for United States History. It is recommended that this tenth grade course, Civics and Economics, directly precede the eleventh grade United States History survey course to maintain continuity and build historical perspective.

As informed decision-makers, students will apply acquired knowledge to real life experiences. When studying the legal and political systems, students will become aware of their rights and responsibilities and put this information into practice. The economic, legal, and political systems are balanced for presentation and, like other social studies subjects; this course lends itself to interdisciplinary teaching. The goals and objectives are drawn from disciplines of political science, history, economics, geography, and jurisprudence.

Course Requirements:

v    Attend class regularly.  Class activities contribute to your understanding and enjoyment of the material!

v     If you must be absent,
§
Notify me by e-mail, in person, or text.
§
Have phone number so you can get assignments and be prepared for the next class meeting.
§
“I was absent” is never an excuse for not having work done.
§
E-mail homework to me or send it with a friend so it won’t be late.

  •          I WILL NOT EXCEPT MAKE-UP WORK UNLESS YOU WERE ABSENT AND DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO GET THE ASSAIGNMENT. If you are caught skipping this class, you WILL NOT be allowed to make up missing assignments.
    §
Bring handouts, pen or pencil and paper to each class.  You will NEED a 3-ring binder for your papers, since handouts will be important for studying.  In addition it is a good idea to keep all papers at least until the semester is over, in case we need to settle grading mistakes.
    §
I expect student to be on time, with assignments or readings done.  I will periodically quiz students on the readings before we discuss them in class.
    §
No one should do homework in class, for this class or any other class. Unless given permission
    §
Once work has been returned to the class, the same assignment may no longer be accepted.

v     The goal is to enjoy the class and the material……ask yourself….What did I learn every day?!

Finally

I can’t stress this point enough…..you need to try in this class.  You need to THINK in this class.  “I don’t know” is never an acceptable answer.  I will always give you points for trying, however, if you don’t even try or fail to even attempt questions, answers or discussion, you will quickly learn it will have a negative impact on your grade.  DO NOT SLEEP IN THIS CLASS.  Videos, Films, Discussion and Powerpoints are common.  Sleeping will result in a participation grade of zero….you will quickly come to find out that those zeros can drastically impact your grade in a negative way.  The class will challenge you to think for yourself.  Although I appreciate you may bring thoughts and comments from others to the discussion, what is most important is what you bring and what you bring is your own.  On that point…..DO NOT CHEAT IN THIS CLASS.  IF THERE IS ONE THING THAT WILL LEAD TO A HORRIBLE GRADE IN THIS CLASS IS THE CHEATING COMPONENT.  You have no reason to cheat on a quiz or test.  If you get stuck, ask me and I will see if I can help.  Having me catch you cheating could be your biggest mistake.  Just ask……asking for help is never a bad idea.  Especially the teacher.  Please let me know whatever it is I can help with, and if I can’t help, I will see if I can point you in the right direction.  Let’s enjoy the next 4 months!
