General Lab Safety Procedures

  1. Review the lab safety materials before each experiment
  2. Behave maturely and use common sense
  3. Protect your eyes – goggles are required for every lab
  4. No food or drink at the lab tables
  5. Protect yourself and others from heat or open flames
  6. The glassware and chemicals are neither clean nor edible
  7. Do not mix, heat, or burn chemicals (or anything else) without permission.
  8. Inform the teacher if something is broken – do not try to use it during a lab.
  9. Inform the teacher if something spills – it is not always water!
  10. Wash your hands before and after each experiment.
  11. Report any suspected or known pregnancy
  12. Rinse, replace, and close all lab equipment and chemicals after each experiment

Students who persistently disregard the proper procedures will be removed from the labs and given alternative assignments.
